College of Music Video Wins Two National Awards

The results of Season 45 of The Telly Awards, “Honoring excellence in video and television across all screens,” were announced. The College of Music promotional video, “Welcome to UNT/This Is Where You Belong,” was named Gold Winner in the categories of Recruitment - Online and General Educational Institution - Online. The Texas based creative team at Hoegger Communications produced the video from where the College of Music’s first-ever commercials were created. These are the sixth and seventh prizes awarded for the video.

Associate Professor of Piano Pedagogy, Oscar Macchioni, and Pamela Mia Paul, Professor of Piano,  judged the 2024 edition of Borderland Chopin International Piano Competition . Macchioni is founder and artistic director of the competition.

Graduate Vocal Student Wins

Alumna and graduate artist certificate student Maiya Williams (MM ’23) won the concurrent Dallas Metroplex Musicians’ Association branch and Southwestern regional competition for the National Association of Negro Musicians. She advanced to Nationals in Los Angeles, California.

The Texas Music Educators Association announced their two 2024 TMEA College Essay Contest winners, “who have excelled in exploring critical topics in music education.” The Graduate Essay Winner is University of North Texas' Nicole Laborte writing, “Social Emotional Learning: Behind the Buzz(word).”

College of Music Welcomes New Faculty

UNT welcomes Simón Gollo to the College of Music as Associate Professor of Violin. He comes to UNT from Furman University where he was Associate Professor of Violin. He enjoys a successful international career as a chamber musician, pedagogue, soloist and conductor.

Performing Arts Health Graduate Candidate Published

A nationwide study of musician mental health has been published by “Psychology of Music” (Sage Journal). Brian McGoldrick, who is a University of North Texas PhD candidate in Music with a Concentration in Performing Arts Health, studied "College music students during COVID-19: Examining the moderating effect of access to resources and stability of living on the relationship between perceived social support and mental health." The study has been published in collaboration with Aaron Bradetich, current UNT PhD candidate in Research, Measurement, and Statistics at UNT, and Kris Chesky, PhD.

Student Receives Fellowship

Julie Coggiola won an Air Force Diversity Fellowship from the United States Air Force Band and will traveled to Washington D.C. to complete a week-long fellowship with the Airmen of Note. Along with the Fellowship, Julie performed with Airmen of Note in concert on June 7 and 8.
