The UNT College of Music is continuing to closely monitor the COVID-19 pandemic and is currently not allowing minors on campus. The safety of our campers, staff, and UNT community is our top priority. A number of virtual camps/workshops will be offered (see below for details). Davy Mooney Jazz Guitar Workshop | NOT OFFERED 2021

Instructors: Davy Mooney

Dr. Davy Mooney is a world-renowned jazz guitarist and educator who records for Sunnyside Records and is a Benedetto Artist, and also a D'Addario artist. He brings his deep knowledge of the jazz guitar tradition, broadly defined, to the Jazz Guitar Workshop. The workshop focuses on the jazz guitar idiom, but students with backgrounds in other styles who have an interest in broadening their knowledge of jazz guitar are also welcome to attend. There is limited space in the workshop, and the spots are first-come/first-served, so register today to secure your place! First ten applicants get a D'Addario welcome pack!

18th Annual Pirastro Strings Virtual Elite Soloists Program | May 25 – June 4, 2021

The 18th Annual Pirastro Strings Elite Soloists Program will accept only 5 participants to study with Jeff Bradetich in the summer of 2021 in a virtual environment. Last summer’s virtual program brought students together from five continents. This year’s guest artist teacher is Aaron Olguin, principal bass of the Trondheim Symphony in Norway, winner of the ISB Solo Competition and 2nd prize winner of the Sphinx Competition.Thanks to the generous support of Pirastro Strings, this program offers free tuition and the Pirastro company will supply participants with free strings of their choice. The schedule for this highly individualized program will include: Daily private lessons, solo master classes and a final virtual concert. In addition, repertoire, programming and career advancement will be discussed. This program is designed for aspiring young artists and professional orchestra players. Former participants currently perform in: Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam, Chicago Symphony, National Symphony, Detroit Symphony, Singapore Philharmonic, National Orchestra of Denmark and many others.

To qualify, participants must have a number of solo works ready for study and performance.
Include at least two contrasting solo works with your application.

Drumline Town Returns! The University of North Texas Percussion Program is excited to announce two 2-day commuter marching percussion camps, June 7-8, and June 9-10, 2021. Tuition cost will be $180 for each. The camps will be aptitude based with camp #1 focused on beginner and intermediate level players and camp #2 structured to the intermediate to advanced level player.  

The camp staff assures our student, staff, and administrative communities that every effort will be made in setting the highest odds of successful safety compliance. In turn, the responsibility extends to you, our students and parents to understand and implement those compliances. We must insist your best effort in keeping yourself safe and helping us all meet these expectations, especially the students. Away from camp, please understand any ramifications of your actions and decisions. The daily self-screening tool/form is to help us continue safe and healthy, so please do not attempt to attend camp if you suspect any self-health concerns; the self-screening form will guide you. While at the camp, heighten your awareness around you and let us know of any concerns. 

We are confident we will make the camp experience rewarding and offer our students the most expected experiences, fun and beneficial.  Let's trust each other to do our part.

Flute! Masterclass in Repertoire and Performance June 11-13 2021 | MOVED TO ONLINE FORMAT

Flute! Repertoire and Performance Masterclass is a performance class for advanced performers, and these sessions emphasize musical performance and preparation. Daily classes include warmup exercises, tone/technique development, articulation studies, interaction of performer and listener, and the master class concludes with a concert by members of the class.

21st Annual Lynn Seaton Jazz Double Bass Workshop | ONLINE | June 14-18

The workshop will offer an intensive week of study and performance opportunities for the jazz upright bassist. Classes include bass line development bass ensembles, and daily sessions on technique. Also, participants will have an opportunity to perform with a rhythm section and be coached. Outstanding faculty concerts will be presented throughout the week. It starts with registration early Monday morning and concludes with the Friday evening Bass Bash concert where ALL the participants will perform. The Lynn Seaton Jazz Double Bass Workshop is open to advanced high school (14+), college, professional, and serious amateur bassists.

Prof. Lynn Seaton has established himself as one of the leading performers and teachers of jazz bass in the world today. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his Annual Jazz Double Bass Workshop. This intimate workshop is limited to 15 upright bass players. (The UNT Combo Workshop accepts electric and upright bass players.) These spots are first-come/first-served, and thus your spot is not fully secured until you have made your Final Payment and completed registration.

Flute! Fundamentals | MOVED TO ONLINE FORMAT | June 18-20, 2021

Flute! Fundamentals is a workshop for performers and educators interested in developing teaching and performing skills.  Participants observe master teaching and interact with artist Mary Karen Clardy coaching students of all levels in daily sessions.  Basics of embouchure, breathing, tone production, phrasing, articulation, vibrato, and technical skills are addressed, with practical exercises/solutions for common flute problems given throughout the class.

UNT International Jazz Strings Workshop | ONLINE | July 6-10 2021

Open to all levels. Each day will be covering a different topic to provide the basics of improvisation on orchestral string instruments other than double bass. Includes jazz vocabulary, phrasing, ear training, bow articulations, and left-hand techniques, and solo development, as well as discussions of live performance amplification and EQ. Build your repertoire by exploring jazz standards. Participation is capped at 30, so register early.

THE WORKSHOP INCLUDES:

  • A copy of Scott Tixier's book (Source Material for Jazz String Improvisation)
  • 5 morning virtual 2-hour lectures
  • 5 afternoon virtual 2-hour group masterclasses Faculty: Scott Tixier and Special Guests. Previous guests included violinists Jean-Luc Ponty and Regina Carter
