About the Masterclasses

Flute! Masterclass in Repertoire & Performance is a performance-based series for advanced performers emphasizing music preparation and performance. Daily classes include warmup exercises, tone and technique development, articulation studies, and interaction between performer and listener, and the program concludes with a concert by members of the class.

Flute! Fundamentals Masterclass is a workshop for performers and educators interested in developing teaching and performing skills. Participants observe master teaching and interact with artist Mary Karen Clardy coaching students of all levels in daily sessions. Basics in embouchure, breathing, tone production, phrasing, articulation, vibrato, and technical skill are addressed with practical exercises/solution for common flute problems given throughout the classes.
