Lynn Seaton Jazz Double Bass Workshop at UNT

June 23 - June 27, 2025 (Arrival day and residence hall check in is June 22. Residence halls open at 3:00pm. The workshop concludes after the Friday evening Bass Bash Concert.)

Professor Lynn Seaton has established himself as one of the leading performers and teachers of the jazz bass in the U.S. today. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his annual Jazz Double Bass Workshop.  This intimate workshop is limited to 11 upright bass players. These spots are first-come/first-served, thus your spot is not fully secured until you have completed registration and made your final payment. The workshop is open to advanced high school (14+), college, professional, and serious amateur upright bassists wishing to expand their capabilities. Beginner-level players should register for the Jeff Bradetich Workshop!

The Lynn Seaton Jazz Double Bass Workshop offers an intensive week of study and performance opportunities for the upright jazz bassist.  

Topics to be covered include:

  1. Upright technique
  2. Developing walking bass lines
  3. Small group playing with a rhythm section
  4. Music theory
  5. Jazz bass history and literature
  6. Bass ensembles

Participants also receive coachings from Professor Lynn Seaton and attend faculty concerts throughout the week. 

The workshop concludes with the annual Bass Bash Concert featuring all participants performing in bass ensembles on Friday evening. Friends and family are encouraged to attend this free concert!

Tuition & Fees
  • $30 – Registration Fee

  • $675 – Tuition 

  • $200 – Minor Housing (optional; double room with shared bath)

    • $50 additional night (late departure) 

  • $40 – Minor Supervision Fee

    • Automatically assessed for participants under the age of 18 residing on campus. 

  • $250 – Adult Housing (optional; single room with shared bath)

    • $60 additional night (late departure) 

  • $160 – Meal Plan (Sunday dinner-Friday dinner)

    • The meal plan is mandatory for participants under the age of 18 residing in campus housing.

    • The meal plan is optional for all other participants.

    • No option for additional meals. Those who require additional nights of housing can pay with cash or card in the dining hall or go off campus (under 18 with supervision). 

  • $30 – Commuter Parking Permit (optional) 

Participants residing on campus must provide their own bedding (extra-long twin size), pillows, towels, and toiletries.

Registration Deadline

  • June 5, 2025 or until 11 spots are filled

Registration Policy

  • Full payment is due at the time of registration.

  • Applicants must be at least 14 years of age by the first date of the workshop to participate.

  • Enrollment is limited to 11 participants.

  • Email to be placed on the waitlist if workshop is full – music.camps@unt.edu.   

Refund Policy
  • Requested by May 23, 2025 – Full refund less $80 ($30 registration fee + $50 administrative fee)

  • Requested by June 9, 2025 – Full refund less $230 ($30 registration fee + $200 administrative fee)

    • We are unable to process refunds requested after June 9, 2025.

    • No refunds will be given should a participant be dismissed for violating UNT policy or program rules provided on the first day.

Out of town participatns should plan on arriving Sunday evening to check into housing. Official camp check-in/registration will be from 9:00am-10:00am in Room 284.
