Sam Flippin (PhD ‘22, music education, MMEd ’17, BM '08, accepted the position of Assistant Professor of Music Education (tenure-track) at Texas State University.

The Texas Choral Directors Association has awarded an early career scholarship to Nick Standish (BM ’20).

Along with his family, incoming music education graduate student, Robert T. Gibson, was honored by the NAACP Springfield, Missouri with their Community Trailblazer award for music dedication and contributions and named June 9, 2022 as Robert T. Gibson Day.

University of North Texas Alumna Sarah Canzonetta (BM ’19) joins Glasgow Scotland's Nevis Ensemble as a fellowship recipient for the coming season. Sarah is currently an Artist Diploma Fellow at England's Royal Northern College of Music.

The Office of Governor Greg Abbott announced the appointment of alumna Lindy Rydman (’72, Voice/Music Education) to the University of North Texas System Board of Regents. She is co-owner of Spec’s Wines, Spirits and Finer Foods and President of the Spec’s Charitable Foundation which has been generous in its support of UNT student scholarships, underwriting of the multi-GRAMMY nominated One O’Clock Lab Band and for significant facilities enhancements to what is now the Spec's Charitable Foundation Courtyard in the College of Music.

At its recent Summer convention, Alumna Kim Ahrens (MMED ’22) received a Choral Directors of Distinction award from the Texas Choral Directors Association.

University of North Texas alumnus Michael Thrasher (MM ’96, DMA ’97), named Dean of the College of Communication and Fine Arts at Troy University.

Collaborative piano alumna Lauren Koszyk (MM'20) joins the faculty of Opera Seme in Arezzo, Italy this summer. She is serving as opera coach, collaborative pianist and Music Director for Opera Seme's production of Umberto Giordano's opera “Mese mariano.”

Jeff Antoniuk (BM ‘90) is founder and CEO of JazzWire, Inc. a “creative and collaborative online learning community for Jazz students.” 

Kelsey Nussbaum (MMEd, 2018; PhD, Music Education, 2021) has been appointed Assistant Professor of Music Education – Strings (tenure-track) at the Fred Fox School of Music at the University of Arizona. She also serves on the National String Project Consortium board and as vice-chair of the American String Teachers Association's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee.
