Trumpeter and University of North Texas alumnus, Frank Greene, was part of the The Legendary Count Basie Orchestra Recording of, “Basie Swings the Blues,” which won Best Large Jazz Ensemble at the 66th Recording Academy GRAMMY Awards.

Professor of Clarinet Honored

Chair of the Division of Instrumental Studies and Professor of Clarinet, Kimberly Cole Luevano, received the 2024 Creative Impact Award from the University of North Texas Division of Research and Innovation. The award is granted to a member of the faculty, “whose research accomplishments or creative endeavors have been truly outstanding.”

UNT alumnus Lecrae (BAAS ʼ02) and Tasha Cobbs Leonard won a Grammy for “Your Power” in the Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song category.

Lecrae Double Grammy Winner

Two-time Grammy-winning University of North Texas alumnus LECRAE (’02) became a four-time winner. He won for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album for “Church Clothes 4.” He studied sociology and electronic media as a UNT student and was influenced by the College of Music.

UNT alumnus Thann Scoggin, bass-baritone, (BM '04, MS '07) won in the Recording Academy category of Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance as an ensemble member of Roomful of Teeth for the album “Rough Magic.”

Alumna Grammy Winner

The Recording Academy announced that UNT College of Music alumna and principal soloist, soprano Latonia Moore, as winner in the Best Opera Recording category for “Blanchard: Champion.” Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducted the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and the Metropolitan Opera Chorus.

Two Alumni Receive Animation Award Nominations

UNT alum Kristopher Carter (BM ’93) and his two partners Lolita Ritmanis and fellow UNT alum Michael McCuistion (BM ’87), were nominated for “Best Music-TV/Media” in the 51st Annie Awards™ for their composing of the music for the Warner Brothers animated movie, “Babylon 5: The Road Home!” The award honors excellence in the field of animation.
