‘The first cannonball of the French Revolution', said Napoleon - and ‘the high point of Western Civilization', says our Director of Opera at UNT - test the truth of these accolades of Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro at UNT Opera's sparkling new production. Will the Count really stop his philandering? Does the Countess truly love him - or is she succumbing to the advances of a young page boy? Will the servants finally take over from their masters? This marvelous comedy of romantic confusions and class collisions is set to Mozart's scintillating music and sung in Italian with English supertitles. Opera does not get better than this.

Based on the extraordinary and celebrated play by Tennessee Williams, André Previn's jazz infused A Streetcar Named Desire is a classic tale that propels audiences into the steamy 1940s French Quarter of New Orleans. Tragic, raw, dangerous - the opera tells the story of Blanche Dubois, a fading southern belle who leaves her Mississippi home under mysterious circumstances to move in to her sister and brutish brother-in-law's shabby apartment. The first line says it all: “They told me to take a Streetcar named Desire. Then transfer to the one called Cemeteries…”
