The UNT Jazz Drum Set Camp is an immersive, four-day experience designed for drummers
looking to improve their jazz drumming skills, explore jazz drumming in depth, and
connect with a community of like-minded drummers. Led by Quincy Davis, a renowned drummer and educator, this camp blends focused instruction, insightful
masterclasses, collaborative rehearsals, and performance opportunities that will help
participants grow as musicians.
Evenings will include faculty performances and jam sessions, providing participants
with invaluable real-world playing experience and constructive feedback to enhance
their group playing skills. The camp will conclude with an exciting final performance,
featuring participants playing in a drum choir they will have been rehearsing with
throughout the week. These drum choirs will be inspired by the language of bebop legends
such as Roy Haynes, Max Roach, Art Blakey, Kenny Clarke, and Philly Joe Jones.
Whether participants are high school students new to jazz, preparing for college auditions,
or just passionate about refining their jazz drumming skills, this camp offers a supportive
and inspiring environment for drummers to grow and thrive.
The workshop will conclude by 6:00pm on the final day.
Participants residing on campus must provide their own bedding (extra-long twin size), pillows, towels, and toiletries.
