Students with minimal or no piano skills should enroll in the first semester skills class. For Music Majors, enroll in MUAG 1011.  For Non-Music Majors or Pre-Music majors, enroll in MUAG 1001. Students interested in being considered for placement in a higher level piano course should follow the instructions below. Placement exams can now be done online with a computer/iPad and digital keyboard.

  1. Consult this document to determine if you need to take the piano placement examination.
  2. If you answered "yes" to the questions in the document above:
    1. and are a MUSIC MAJOR, login to Piano Marvel and take the SASR test.
    2. and are a NON-MUSIC or PRE-MUSIC major, navigate to Piano Marvel using this link.
    3. OR if you prefer to take your placement exam in person, exams will be administered Wednesday, January 7, 2026 between 10am and noon. Select a time at this link.
