Tuesday, August 11, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

2. What will take place at the audition?

Sight-Reading

  • You will be asked to perform sight reading exercises of increasing difficulty.
  • You will have 30 seconds to silently study/practice each example.
  • You will then perform the example for the adjudicator on solfege, neutral syllable, or whatever system you choose.
  • Your sight reading score will be recorded and factor into your choir placement.

Prepared Solo Portion

  • Prepare a solo for the choral faculty: art song, shorter operatic aria, hymn, simple folk song, or My Country, Tis of Thee.
  • Because of time limits, be prepared for the panel to stop you in the middle of the piece.
  • You do not need to provide a pianist; one will be present to play with you.
  • Bring clear, legible sheet music in a three ring binder for the pianist to use. No loose pieces of paper.

Procedure

  • Arrive at the Choral Office (MU 217) to check in 10 minutes before your audition time.
