Which performances are free for UNT students?

Most College of Music events are free for students. The common exceptions are performances by the 1:00 Lab Band, UNT Jazz Singers, and the UNT Opera. All Fine Arts Series performances are free to students. For information about specific events click here.

If the performance is free for UNT students do I still need a ticket?

Yes, tickets are required even if the performance is free for students. Free student tickets are only available at the MPAC box office with a valid UNT student ID.

Can I get a student ticket for someone else?

No, free student tickets require a valid UNT ID. Each UNT student gets one free ticket.

I need to see a performance for a class- which one should I go to?

The answer to this question depends on the class. Some classes require that students hear music from a particular period (such as Baroque, Romantic, or 20th Century). It is best to ask your teacher if the performance you want to attend is appropriate. The box office staff receives program information within 48 hours before the performance and may be able to provide information about the names of pieces, dates, and composers.

Does the MPAC hire students?

Yes, the usher staff, box office staff, stage crew, stage managers and front of house managers are all students at UNT. Available jobs are posted at the beginning of each semester on the UNT career services website and are typically filled within the first 2-3 weeks of the semester.

Where is the box office located?

The box office is in the lobby of the MPAC under the grand staircase.

What should I wear to the MPAC?

There is no specific dress code for performances at the MPAC. Patrons wear everything from comfortable clothing to business casual.

When should I arrive?

It is best to plan to arrive early. The box office opens one hour before ticketed events. The doors to the performance hall open half an hour before most events.

What happens if I arrive late to the performance?

At most performances, there is an allotted time for seating patrons who arrive late but this is not a guarantee. There are no seating opportunities while the ensemble or soloist is performing but seating often happens between pieces. If you arrive late, the ushers in the lobby will be able to provide information about the next opportunity for seating.

Are the seats reserved or can I sit where I want?

It depends on the performance. Most performances at the MPAC are general admission, which means that you can sit in any open section of the performance hall. Some performances are reserved seating, which means you will have an assigned seat.

Is there a lost and found?

Yes, all lost and found items are kept in the MPAC box office until the end of the semester when they are taken to the UNT central lost and found in the University Union. The box office also keeps a record of lost items and contact information for patrons who have lost something that is not already in the lost and found.

What happens if a performance is sold out?

When a performance is sold out, the MPAC typically has a standby line in the lobby the night of performance. The standby line is a first come, first served opportunity to purchase tickets that become available. It is not a guarantee of receiving a ticket.

Is there food available in the MPAC? Can I bring my own food into the performance hall?

No, the MPAC does not have any food vendors or vending machines. Food and beverage are not allowed in the performance hall.
