GBCG FAQs

What will auditions look like?

Video audition information will be released by the time auditions open on May 16. Follow @unt_cg on Instagram for the most up-to-date information.

Callback auditions will occur over the course of two full days with about three blocks each day. Activities may include stretching, dance fundamentals (across-the-floors), flag warm-ups and technical skills, a choreographed flag routine, and a choreographed dance routine. Most time will be spent learning and practicing choreography. At the end of the second day, there will be a final showcase of the flag warm-up routine, choreographed flag routine, and choreographed dance routine.

There are lunch and dinner breaks each day. Meals are not provided.

What does it cost to participate in Color Guard?

If accepted into the group, Color Guard members need to purchase black jazz shoes, body tights, black jazz pants, color guard jacket, color guard bag, 6-foot silver pole and green practice flag, and performance make up. The estimated cost is approximately $150. Fortunately, once you buy these items, you will use them every season. Some fall seasons members will also need to procure a custom show-based uniform. The Directors will provide information about this when it is the case.

Do I have to spin rifle/sabre?

No, auditioning for the rifle line is optional.

If you would like to audition for the rifle line, please bring your own rifle to auditions. Whether or not we have a rifle line depends on the season, but if we have one the line will be set during Summer Band Camp. The sabre line, if we have one, is created from members of the rifle line at the director's discretion.

If I am accepted into Color Guard, what does the time commitment look like?

Immediately after auditions, we begin our Summer Band Camp during the week before classes start. Rehearsals generally occur in three blocks between 8am and 9pm during this week, with various breaks and activities in between.

Once classes start, rehearsals occur at DATCU Stadium every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 4:30 to 6:30pm. Please plan to attend sectionals that may be called on Wednesdays from 6:30 to 7:30pm at the discretion of the director.

The Color Guard attends all home football games and exhibition performances with the Green Brigade Marching Band. Please see the full Green Brigade calendar here.
