Students must be familiar with movement and flag basic techniques, have overall coordination, and feel comfortable performing in front of large audiences. Auditions will only be based on movement and flag skills.

Attire
Any green, black, or white clothing that is fitted and easy to move in can be worn to the auditions. No jeans or baggy clothing will be allowed. Dance attire is preferred. Appropriate footwear is barefoot or jazz shoes.
Equipment
You will be provided with a 6-foot flag pole and silk during auditions. If you wish to audition for the rifle line, you are required to provide your own. UNT may or may not have a rifle line - it is contingent from season to season. It is preferred that members use a 39” white rifle with a black strap and black bolt.
Cost
If accepted into the group, Color Guard members need to purchase black jazz shoes, body tights, black jazz pants, color guard jacket, color guard bag, 6-foot silver pole and green practice flag, and performance make up. The estimated cost is approximately $150. Fortunately, once you buy these items, you will use them every season. Some fall seasons members will also need to procure a custom show-based uniform. The Directors will provide information about this when it is the case.
Other Information
If accepted into the group, you will be required to attend camp before class begins. You must also register for the marching band class (the guard section, MULB 1812, section 502.)

What will auditions look like?
Auditions will occur over the course of 2 full days, with roughly 3 time blocks each
day. Activities will include stretching, dance fundamentals (across-the-floors), flag
warm-ups & technical skills, a choreographed flag routine, and a choreographed dance
routine. Day 1 and most of day 2 will consist of learning and practicing choreography,
and there will be a final showcase of the flag warm-up routine, choreographed flag
routine, and choreographed
dance routine at the end of day 2. Lunch and dinner breaks occur each day, however
meals are not provided.
Do I have to spin rifle/sabre?
No. If you'd like to audition for the rifle line, please bring your own rifle to auditions.
Our rifle line is contingent from season to season, but will be set during the week
of band camp if we have one. Sabre line is created from individuals on the rifle line,
and is generally up to the director's discretion, but also not guaranteed each season.
I have freshman first flight week during band camp, how will that work?
If accepted into the group, you will miss most of orientation. Guard captains and
peers will be happy to answer any questions from freshman about adjusting to campus

If accepted, what does the time commitment look like?
After auditions, we jump into our week-long band camp. Rehearsals with and without the band will occur each day from approximately 9 AM to 9 PM this week, with various activities and breaks in between. Once school begins, rehearsals occur in Apogee stadium every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 4:30-6:30 PM. Please plan time to also attend sectionals that may be called on Wednesdays from 6:30 - 7:30 PM at the discretion
of the director. Games are on Saturdays, with rehearsals before. Please check the calendar for specific dates and times. Attendance is expected and will impact your grade for the course.
