Mandatory MacOS Update Procedures

Music IT Support uses a notification system known as Nudge to alert users to mandatory macOS updates. If you have received a notification from nudge (see screenshot below), then this is an official request from Music IT Support and can be trusted.

If you are unable to perform the update at the time of notification, you may simply click "Defer." However, once the "Days Remaining to Update" reaches "O", the Defer option will no longer be available. Users will usually have 30 days to choose when they wish to update.  If you have any questions, please contact Music IT Support at: music.support@unt.edu.

Clicking “Update Device” will begin the update process by opening Self service on your device and auto start the download process. Click on "Update MacOS" to start the update process if it does not begin on its own.

Apple Silicon Mac Note:

Users with the newer M1 or M2 Apple computers will require user credentials to be supplied before an update can begin.  Users will be prompted to enter their computer account username and password via a dialog window. The current user is pre-filled in the dialog and chosen if skipped by the user, but a different user can be filled in instead. If you don't know your account password or require assistance please contact tech support: /contact

Once the Process Begins the following full screen messages will display.  You will be unable to use your computer until the update is complete.

Be aware, upgrading the computer can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on network speed and/or age of computer. Please be prepared to allot adequate time to the process.
While problems with system updates are rare, we recommend you backup any critical files to your OneDrive or Music Home account.
Save all open files and close all applications prior to starting this process. If the computer is a laptop, be sure that it is plugged into power
