Associate Professor and Chair of the Division of Music History, Theory and Ethnomusicology, David Heetderks, published "Dramatizing the Blues: Smokey Robinson’s Formal Conversions of Blues from 1964 to 1975" in “American Music," a multidisciplinary music journal. The article traces influences of blues forms on Robinson's early songwriting and shows how he expanded and dramatized them in songs from 1964 to 1975.
