Scholarship Exceptions/Appeals

Students may file a scholarship appeal to retain their scholarships when they face circumstances beyond their control that prevent them from fulfilling the obligations of their awards. Such circumstances could include:

    • student teaching/internship
    • final semester coursework or ABD status
    • illness or injury

Successful appeals could allow for:

    • less than full-time enrollment
    • a waiver of the laboratory ensemble requirement
    • a waiver of the applied lesson enrollment requirement
    • an additional award year for students who have exhausted award eligibility in their current degree program

Completed appeal forms and supporting documentation may be submitted via email to music.awards@unt.edu. Once submitted, the form will be reviewed and students will be notified of the appeal decision. Questions about appeals can be sent to music.awards@unt.edu.

Other Awards for Continuing Students

The College of Music encourages all current music students and prospective music students to complete the Eagle Scholarship Portal prior to March 1 annually.  This application can be found on the UNT Financial Aid and Scholarships website listed below.  UNT provides a number of other scholarship and grant opportunities as well.  Please visit the sites linked below for more details.

The College of Music also encourages every music student and applicant to complete the following applications for federal and/or state aid as applicable to each student's circumstances. You are under no obligation to accept loans offered through these programs, but completion of the application may allow you to be considered for other types of need-based aid from the college and university.

Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Before each year of college, eligible students should apply for federal grants, work-study, and loans with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form. UNT uses your FAFSA data to determine your federal aid eligibility, and also uses FAFSA data to award other need-based aid.
