Joel Wiley

Joel D. Wiley is the Director of Admissions for the UNT College of Music, where he oversees all facets of the admissions process, including applications, auditions, and recruitment. He is also the founder and coordinator of the College of Music Ambassador Program, which he established in 2012.

Mr. Wiley is a sought-after clinician and presenter, having spoken at prestigious events such as the Texas Counseling Association Conference, NAfME National In-Service, Texas Music Educators Association Convention, College Board Southwest Regional Conference, Higher Education Consultants Association, and the National Association for College Admission Counseling. His scholarly work includes co-authoring articles published in the Journal of Educational Administration and History and the Journal of School Counseling.

He earned his undergraduate degrees in voice and opera from the University of Oklahoma and Southern Nazarene University, and a master’s degree in music-vocal performance from the University of North Texas College of Music. His extensive performance experience includes roles with renowned organizations such as the Richmond Symphony, Oklahoma Opera Theater, Fort Worth Opera, Cimarron Circuit Opera Company, North Texas Opera Theater, The Dallas Opera, Musica & Musica Mercatello (Italy), and more. Additionally, he served as the Michaelsen Artist in Residence at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Dallas for five years.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions, Joel Wiley was honored with the Steve Miller Outstanding Employee Award for the 2018-19 year, the highest accolade awarded to UNT staff members.
