Opera Scholarships and Assistantships

Scholarships

At UNT, a competitive scholarship  of $1,000 allows non-resident students, including international students, to attend UNT at in-state rates.  UNT Opera grants a number of awards ranging from $1,000 to $20,000 annually. Voice students may also qualify for competitive academic awards from the university or competitive performance awards from the Division of Vocal Studies.

Graduate Assistantships and Fellowships

Graduate students in opera may apply to become teaching assistants in the opera program. Students may also be considered for assistantships in the College's admissions and development offices. Teaching assistants are graduate students who do not have primary responsibility for teaching a course for credit; they perform under the instructor’s direct supervision and provide general assistance to the instructional process, such as grading, tutoring, etc.

Highly qualified doctoral students may be considered for one of eight teaching fellowships in the Division of Vocal Studies. Teaching fellows have direct student contact in a formal instructional setting and are charged with primary responsibility for teaching a course for credit under the direct supervision of a faculty member or chair, receiving regular in-service training and planned and periodic evaluations. Teaching fellows in Vocal Studies are generally employed to teach applied voice lessons.
