Through a gift from Spec’s Charitable Foundation, the College of Music has created the research and recording lab housed within the Music Building. Spec’s Wines, Spirits, and Finer Foods is owned by College of Music graduates John Rydman (’72, saxophone), chair of the College of Music advancement board, and Lindy Rydman (’72, voice), a member of the UNT Board of Regents.

The Lab supports advanced recording projects across a wide range of needs, serving as a critical resource for students, faculty, and collaborative partners engaged in high-level scholarly and creative activity within the College of Music. The lab features a hybrid analog–digital workflow, centered around an SSL Origin 16 console paired with Avid Pro Tools MTRX II, supporting sophisticated tracking, editing, and production workflows common in today’s professional studios.
