Frequently Asked Questions · Admissions & Scholarships

How do I apply for a music scholarship?

You are considered for a music scholarship based on your audition or interview. There is no separate scholarship application process.

How do I apply for an academic scholarship?
All first-time freshmen and transfer students are considered for academic scholarships upon admittance to UNT based on their application materials. Newly admitted graduate students are considered for academic scholarships upon a completed Eagle Scholarship Portal application.
When will I find out whether I am being offered an academic scholarship?
For undergraduate students, those decisions are made and sent in batches based on when you applied and are admitted to the university.  For graduate students, those decisions are made and sent in batches based on when you completed your Eagle Scholarship Portal application.
Are there other scholarship opportunities of which I can take advantage?
Yes! We encourage all our students to complete a profile on the Eagle Scholarship Portal every year for consideration for hundreds of scholarships.
Do I need to complete the FAFSA or TAFSA to be considered for scholarships?

While we encourage all our students to complete the appropriate federal aid application,  it is only required to be considered for need-based aid.

Which federal aid application is the right one for me?

FAFSA is the correct choice for:

  • U.S. citizens
  • Permanent residents (I-551 or I-551C)
  • Those with eligible status on an I-94

TAFSA is the correct choice for all who do not meet criteria for the FAFSA, mostly international students without permanent residency.
