Dr. Linda Di Fiore, Mezzo-Soprano and Regents Professor, has performed professionally for forty years as a soloist in opera, oratorio, recital, and musical theatre. Her career has included guest performances throughout the United States with such groups as the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Minnesota Orchestra, Minnesota Opera, Bach Aria Festival in New York City, Orlando Opera, Pensacola Oratorio Society, Wichita Opera, Music Theatre of Wichita, Winter Haven Messiah Society, North Florida Arts Opera Series, Longview Opera, Joffrey Ballet, Texas Ballet Theatre, Texas Choral Artists, Orchestra of New Spain, Arlington Choral Society, Richardson Symphony, San Angelo Symphony, Wichita Falls Symphony, Amalfi Coast Festival, and Da Ponte String Quartet (resident quartet of Maine). Roles include Carmen, Maddalena, Orlovsky, Old Prioress, Principessa, Suzuki, Cherubino, Mamma Lucia, and Mrs. Ott.
An active song recitalist, Dr. Di Fiore has performed internationally in Innsbruck and Graz, Austria; Rome, Venice, Cremona, Mantua, Sabbioneta, Castelfranco-Veneto, Vietri sul Mare, Italy; Toronto, Canada and San Juan, Puerto Rico. In the U.S. she has performed in Santa Barbara, St. Petersburg, Dallas, Atlanta, Minneapolis, and Washington, D.C. In addition, she has toured England and Scotland as an oratorio soloist and has lectured for the Smithsonian Institution in Vienna and Prague for their music festival tours.
Dr. Di Fiore joined the faculty of the University of North Texas in 1996. Prior to that, she was a Professor of Voice at the University of Florida, where she taught for fourteen years. While there, she twice received the Teacher of the Year Award for the College of Fine Arts as well as a Teaching Incentive Program Award from the Florida Board of Regents. At UNT she has received the Citation for Distinguished Service to International Education and the President's Council Teaching Award. She holds the Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Minnesota where she studied with the renowned pedagogue, Roy Schuessler.
She is in demand as a clinician and has presented master classes for the Marcello Conservatory in Venice, Conservatory of Music in San Juan, Steffani Conservatory in Castelfranco-Veneto, Voice Centre of Toronto, U. of British Columbia, Eastman School of Music, U. of Oregon, U. of Kansas, Vanderbilt, U. of No. Arizona, U. of Tennessee, U. of Florida, Columbus State U., Georgia Southern U., Oklahoma State U., Oklahoma City U., Murray State U., Valdosta State U., Fort Worth Opera, Opera in the Ozarks, Seagle Arts Colony, Kansas City Lyric Opera, and Orlando Opera.
Since 2004, Dr. Di Fiore has held the distinction of Master Teacher in the National Association of Teachers of Singing, a lifelong designation. She has taught in summer programs in Rome, Venice, Casalmaggiore, Innsbruck, Graz (American Institute of Musical Studies) and most recently in the Amalfi Coast Festival where she will again teach in 2011. In fall of 2005, Dr. Di Fiore served as a Visiting Professor of Voice at the distinguished Eastman School of Music.
Current and former students of Dr. Di Fiore have been accepted into some of the most prestigious summer programs in the U.S. (Wolf Trap, Merola, Santa Fe, Chautauqua, Central City, Aspen, Opera North, Ashlawn-Highland, Des Moines Metro, Brevard, Opera in the Ozarks, Seagle Fine Arts Colony, OperaWorks) as well as Young Artist Programs (Metropolitan Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Seattle Opera, Pittsburgh Opera, Kansas City Lyric Opera, Sasrasota Opera, Pensacola Opera, Knoxville Opera, Ft. Worth Opera, El Paso Opera, Nashville Opera, Kentucky Opera, Utah Opera, Wichita Opera) and have sung roles in all of the major opera houses in the U.S.
National competitions in which her students have won or placed include Metropolitan Opera Council Auditions, Dallas Opera Guild, Houston Grand Opera McCullum Competition, El Paso Opera Guild, Palm Beach Opera Competition, Birmingham Opera, Bel Canto Competition, National Opera Association, “America’s Got Talent,” The American Prize Competition, MTNA and NATSAA.
