Students in the College of Music have the opportunity to study with a highly acclaimed faculty of performers, composers, scholars and researchers, all of whom are dedicated to teaching a highly diverse student body that chooses to attend UNT, whether that teaching occurs in private lessons, large or small ensemble settings, or in the classroom.

The College of Music at the University of North Texas is one of the nation’s finest comprehensive music schools. North Texas graduates are exceptionally accomplished, and are consistently competitive at the highest levels of their chosen professions.

Our graduates hold positions across the spectrum of the music profession, and around the world including teachers and scholars in schools, colleges, universities and conservatories; performers in orchestras, bands, opera, choruses, jazz, and recordings; employees in the music industry; and composers in the concert hall, television and film.

Undergraduate Degree Programs

Undergraduate Degree Programs in the University of North Texas College of Music include a wide variety of study. All undergraduates take core music classes that provide professional preparation in a broad base of music skills and knowledge. These courses of study include performance (applied music), music theory, music history, piano, music in world culture, large ensembles (including band, orchestra, jazz, choral and opera) and chamber music. Study in music beyond the music core include specialization in performance, music education, composition, jazz, advanced music history and ethnomusicology, advanced music theory, and early music.

Undergraduate Degree Programs

  • Bachelor of Music in Performance (strings – including guitar and harp - woodwinds, multiple woodwinds, brass, percussion, piano, harpsichord, organ, and voice)
  • Bachelor of Music in General, Choral and Instrumental Music (teacher certification)
  • Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies
  • Bachelor of Music in Composition
  • Bachelor of Music in Music Theory
  • Bachelor of Arts in Music (General or Music History Track)

We also offer specialized study in opera, early music performance, music and medicine, ethnomusicology and world music.

Please note that we do not offer degree programs in music therapy, music business or recording technology.
