How to Apply to the Bachelor of Music, the Bachelor of Arts Program and for a Music Scholarship

 

Step 1: Apply to the University of North Texashttp://www.applytexas.org. (International students refer to http://www.international.unt.edu.) After you apply to UNT, you will receive an email which includes an EUID and password.  This process may take several weeks. Follow the directions in that email to activate your EUID.  You may proceed to Step 2 to apply to the College of Music.

There is a $60 application fee for US citizens and resident aliens. There is a $85 application fee for international applicants.
Admission to the College of Music is contingent upon admission to the University of North Texas.

Step 2: Apply to the College of MusicComplete the on-line College of Music application This is your application for audition, admission, and music merit scholarships. The on-line application will require you to submit names and email addresses of three people whom you wish to recommend you for music study at UNT. Only complete applications can be submitted. For best results we recommend using Firefox or Safari when completing your application.

There is no application fee for the College of Music.

To be considered for admission in the fall semester, preference will be given to applications received by the first Monday in December. Applications received after that date will be reviewed, and auditions will be scheduled on a case-by-case basis depending on space availability.

Step 3: Complete the audition: If auditioning in person, you have already selected an audition date on the College of Music application. You will be notified via email of your assigned audition time. For audition requirements, please see http://www.music.unt.edu/admissions/undergraduate-repertoire. Please refer to http://jazz.unt.edu/admission-auditions for additional jazz requirements. Live auditions are preferred. If you are unable to audition in person, follow the directions on the College of Music application to submit a high quality recorded video audition by using youtube.com, yousendit.com, or similar web service. If these websites are unavailable to you, try using www.tudou.com.

Applicants are notified of admission results after the final on-campus audition date.

The National Association of Schools of Music Code of Ethics Article V. requires that the acceptance of financial aid or the signing of a declaration of intent to attend a given institution shall not be binding if signed before May 1, of the calendar year of matriculation into a program of study at the undergraduate level.

Orientation/Registration
When you have been accepted by the University, UNT Admissions will send information about registering for an Orientation session.

Music Placement Examinations in Music Theory and Keyboard
If you did not take, or did not pass the Music Placement Examination in Music Theory and Keyboard at the time of your audition, you may re-take it during orientation.  Following the examinations, you will work with an academic advisor to schedule your classes for the ensuing semester.

Items to review for the Theory Placement Exam: (Study Guide)

  • The accurate writing of all major and minor key signatures on both treble and bass clef
  • The correct notation of all major and (all three types of) minor scales in either clef (using either accidentals or key signatures).
  • Correctly label basic intervals

The test will determine your placement in music theory classes.
