YAMAHA CORPORATION REPRESENTED AT UNT: Yamaha Music USA and Metroplex Piano are providing a new, 7-foot Yamaha S7X grand piano in Assistant Professor of Jazz Piano, Dave Meder’s studio this academic year. CHORAL FACULTY TO CONDUCT IN NYC: Jessica Nápoles, Interim Chair of Conducting & Ensembles, has been invited to conduct the High School Honors Mixed Chorus at Carnegie Hall in March 2020 as part of the Honors Performance Series through World Strides. She was invited to conduct the High School Honors Women’s Chorus in 2019 and asked to return in 2020.
In the announcement, he is described as a "sublime jazz pianist... A consummate musician and inspired educator."
ALUMNUS NEWS: Nicholas Williams (BM '97, MM '04, DMA '09) has begun his position as Associate Professor of Music/Conductor of Wind Ensembles at the Melbourne Conservatory of Music at the University of Melbourne.
OXFORD UNIVERSITY PRESS TO RELEASE FACULTY BOOK: Professor of Music History and Coordinator of Music History, Margaret Notley's, book, Taken by the Devil: The Censorship of Frank Wedekind and Alban Berg's “Lulu,” will be released in September as part of the AMS Studies in Music, the official series of the American Musicological Society.
PHD STUDENT ARTICLE ACCEPTED FOR PUBLICATION: Kari Adams' article, Changes to Spacing Preference in Ensembles of Varying Size: A Pilot Study, to be published in the International Journal of Research in Choral Singing.
Jie (Jackie) Gao (DMA '17), violin, was the 2018 Gold Award Winner for associate producing “Treasures of the Earth: Gems, Metals and Power,” a documentary, science & technology feature on NOVA and PBS. Presented by the New York Festivals, this award honors creative excellence worldwide

DMA STUDENT APPOINTED TO FACULTY: Megan Bailey, DMA student in trumpet, has won the tenure track position of Assistant Professor of Trumpet/High Brass at Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi.
COMPOSITION CHAIR RELEASES VIDEO: The work by Joseph Klein, Distinguished Teaching Professor and Chair of the Division of Composition Studies, is his 2017 composition, Der Saus und Braus. The piece is played by Redi Llupa.
