The Houston (TX) Chamber Choir recently announced that their 2019-2020 season will include Kristina Caswell MacMullen working with eight Houston area Title I high schools. Dr. MacMullen joins the UNT faculty as Associate Professor of Choral Studies.

The College of Music assistant professor of music education, William J. Coppola, has been named the recipient of the inaugural Hildegard C. Froehlich Early Career Researcher Award. This award was presented for his paper, Performing Humbleness & Haughtiness: Dramaturgical Perspectives of Musical Humility & Pride during the International Symposium on the Sociology of Music Education.
The College of Music has added electronics as instrument of concentration. Undergraduate students pursuing a composition degree may begin declaring Electronics as their instrument of choice for Fall 2020 admission. UNT describes Electronics as a "broad category of creating audio and audio/visual music using electronic devices including computing devices (computers/tablets/phones), electronic audio hardware (analog synthesizers/digital controllers), and audio/arts technology software (audio production/video production/music programming languages)."
The International Symposium on the Sociology of Music Education was held on campus. Returning the conference to UNT recognized the College of Music’s Professor of Music Education Emeritus, Hildegard Froehlich, who is one of the founders of the discipline of sociology of music education.
Kristin Bigham (BM '11) has been selected as one of only three individuals taking part in the administrative portion of the residency helping to create a broad network of female administrative leaders of performing arts organizations. A CAPPELLA CHOIR TO TMEA: The #UNTCoM A Cappella choir, conducted by Dr. Allen Hightower, Director of Choral Studies, has been invited to perform in San Antonio during the 2020 Texas Music Educators Association state convention. TMEA produces the largest music educators conference in the United States.
Kristen Sullivan (DMA '19) and current PhD student, received Special Judges' Citation: "Championing the Music of Lesser Known Composers” at The American Prize competition for College/University Women in opera.
The UNT College of Music Courtyard renovation renderings showcase a new live performance space, student and community gathering places along with a significant increase in landscaping. This view looking northeast captures the large video wall to the rear of the performance space along with a covered walkway that extends from the Voertman Concert Hall Lobby out to Avenue C.
