Regents Professor of Piano, Pamela Mia Paul, has been selected for The Cliburn Amateur Competition Jury for 2022. She also served as a member of the screening jury of the Fifteenth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.
Diego Cubero, University of North Texas Assistant Professor of Music Theory has been invited to join the editorial board of the journal Music Theory Online.
Eric Hitt (MM ’19 and DMA student) was recognized as an international top ten semi-finalist then was awarded honorable mention in the final results of the International Society of Bassists International Double Bass Competition.
Haojian Wang, DMA student in viola, won second place in the AVS American Viola Society Orchestral Excerpt Competition.
PhD and DMA student Júlia Coelho, soprano, has been named 3rd place in the American Prize competition, university division, opera category. As well, she was named semifinalist in the oratorio and art song category, university division.
Assistant Professor of Jazz Violin, Scott Tixier, was recently included in recording Academy Award winning Jon Batiste’s composition, NBA Anthem. The New York City recording was included in a National Basketball Association commercial, NBA “That’s Game.”
Twelve members of the College of Music faculty and alumni represented the University of North Texas at the International Computer Music Conference 2021 being held online from Chile. Faculty include Professor Jon Nelson, Associate Professor Panayiotis Kokoras, Associate Professor Andrew May, Principal Lecturer Elizabeth McNutt and alumni Jason Fick (PhD ’13), Mikel Keuhn (BM), Elainie Lillios (DMA ’00), Bradley Robin (PhD ’16), Seth Shafer (PhD ’17), Zach Thomas (PhD ’19) and Yu-Chung Tseng (MM ’94, DMA ’98) have music being presented at the conference while Jeffrey Morris (DMA ’07) provides a workshop.

Austin Ford (BM ’21), trumpet, was named to the Jazz Aspen Snowmass 2021 Academy. The program “identifies and assists the most talented artists embracing jazz.” Academy membership comes with a full-cost of attendance award. This is the second alumnus included this Summer.
Music attorney William J. Metzger (BA ’11) announced the creation of his own record label, Affiant Records. Based in Dallas, Texas, Affiant Records is a multi-genre label focusing on talent that brings about a positive change in the world through music and entertainment.
Jolene Masone (DMA ’16) and Brian McKee, DMA, University of North Texas College of Music academic counselor for graduate studies and both members of the Premier Lone Star Wind Orchestra, directed by UNT Regents Professor of Music Eugene Corporon, perform. Their bassoon duo performance of Three Arias from “Barber of Seville” by Gioacchino Rossini, was recorded at Moody Performance Hall Dallas.
David Childs, Professor of Euphonium, and co-director of the UNT Brass Band, was honored by the International Tuba-Euphonium Association (ITEA) with its biennial Excellence in Recording Award for his Symphonic Euphonium II CD featuring premiere concerto recordings with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. The Awards were established by the ITEA to foster, encourage and recognize excellence in the field of recording.

Megan Heber, University of North Texas Adjunct Instructor of Arts Management, was a featured panelist for Business Council for the Arts (BCA) Leadership Arts Alumni (LAA) discussion series, Connect for the Arts. These online forums are for learning and discussion about challenges facing the North Texas arts and culture nonprofit community. She is also Executive Director of the Children's Chorus of Greater Dallas.
Jennifer Lane, Professor of Voice, returned for a third year of teaching at the Festival “Musica in Laguna d’Arte” Corsi Musicale Internazionale Estivi 2021, Associazione Lirico Musicale Clodiense in Regione Veneto, Città di Chioggia. The course concluded with a concert of 17th and 18th century music in Auditorium San Nicolò, a building dating from year 1211.
Marcel Castro-Lima, Brazilian composer and PhD student published a new paper about the Composer/Performer collaboration with the clarinetist José Batista Júnior and the compositional process of the piece, Interference, for Bass Clarinet and Electronics. The paper is published in vol.34 (2021) of the Brazilian Journal of Music.

The work by Joseph Klein, Distinguished Teaching Professor of Composition and Chair of the Division of Composition, Chain of Circumstances, for solo piano and optional dancer, has been selected for performance during the 2021-22 season by The Locrian Chamber Players from its annual call for scores. The video version of the work premiered November 2020 at University of North Texas for CEMI's Sonic Murals Festival.
Megan Stapleton (DMA ‘20) has been appointed as Assistant Professor of Voice Studies at BJU - Division of Music at Bob Jones University and will be teaching applied voice, vocal literature, vocal pedagogy and opera workshop.
North Texas Jazz | UNT Division of Jazz Studies Two O’Clock Lab Band was chosen to perform at the 2021 @midwestclinic international band and orchestra conference in Chicago, Illinois. The band is directed by Rob Parton, Associate Professor of Jazz Trumpet and Chair of the Division of Jazz Studies.
Rob Parton, Associate Professor of Jazz Trumpet and Chair of the Division of Jazz Studies, returned from a recording session in Chicago with David Bloom, composer/producer and Cliff Colnot, arranger/producer, where he was featured soloist on four tracks. The scheduled release is 2022.

The Summer big band program is under the leadership of Christian McBride, Shelly Berg and Chuck Bergeron with the goal “to identify and assist the most talented artists embracing jazz.” As such, inclusion to the Academy is a full-cost of attendance financial award.
Jeff Bradetich, Regents Professor of Double Bass, was awarded by the International Society of Bassists with their 2021 Special Recognition Award in the category of Teaching. The honor is bestowed “to those who have contributed their special skills, knowledge, projects and other positive works in furthering the ISB's mission to inspire, educate and connect.”
