Faculty Presents at International Conference in Switzerland

UNT Associate Professor of Piano Pedagogy, Oscar Macchioni, presented at the 46th International European Piano Teachers Association (EPTA) Conference at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Switzerland. Pianists from 27 countries spent four days presenting and performing. Dr. Macchioni presented piano pedagogy curriculum for implementation in universities and conservatories.

Long Serving Faculty Announces Retirement

After serving UNT and its College of Music students since 1986, Jesse Eschbach, Professor of Organ, announced his intent to retire at the close of the 2023-2024 academic year. Dr. Eschbach is University of Michigan, Indiana University and Conservatoire de Rueil-Malmaison educated, a published author, performer, lecturer and pedagogue. Among others, he studied organ with Marie-Madeleine Duruflé-Chevalier and piano with Christiane Devos. His students sit on important organ appointments throughout the world. In 2023 he oversaw major expansion and renovation of the 100-year-old 1949 Möller IV/78 in UNT's Main Auditorium originally built in 1924.

Alumna Releases Album

Pianist and UNT alumna, Elena Dorozhkina (DMA ’12) released Russian Piano Gems showcasing works of Mosolov, Glinka, Scriabin, Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov. Fanfare Magazine said, “Her debut disc reveals a remarkable talent ... a thoroughly successful and musically satisfying debut on disc.” This PARMA Recordings (Navona Records) album is available at the link below.

Student Wins Organ Prize

Organ performance student, Ryan Giraldi, was selected as recipient of the 2023 M. Louise Miller–Paul E. Knox Scholarship. The award is presented annually by the Greater Bridgeport, Connecticut chapter of the American Guild of Organists.

Brad Beckman Awarded

The Frances Clark Center for Keyboard Pedagogy awarded UNT Assistant Professor Brad Beckman (MM ‘89, DMA ‘94) with a Frances Clark Center Outstanding Service Recognition Award. This award is presented for ongoing leadership, highest-quality expertise, and support for the advancement of piano teaching, learning, and performing.

Alumni Selected for Organ Competition

The festival selection jury announced the organists taking part in the 32nd St. Albans, United Kingdom, International Organ Competitions. Samuel Gaskin, (MM ’18), along with four others from across the globe, were selected as a competitor in the improvisation category.

College of Music Welcomes New Faculty

Oscar Macchioni has accepted an invitation to join the UNT College of Music faculty as an Associate Professor of Piano Pedagogy. Dr. Macchioni’s academic credentials include the Téchnico Instrumentista Especialidad Piano from the Universidad Nacional de Tucumá (Argentina), the Artist Certificate in Piano from the Krakow Academy of Music (Poland), the Master of Music in Piano Performance from Louisiana State University and the Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Arizona. In addition to being an accomplished performing artist, he is a published scholar with credits including a solo-authored book, a solo-authored book chapter, a series of published journal articles, six CD recordings and an impressive list of solo recitals and performances. He comes to Denton from the University of Texas at El Paso.

IKCAS Launches Peer-Reviewed Scholarly Journal

University of North Texas Professor of Collaborative Piano and Vocal Coaching and founder and president of the International Keyboard Collaborative Arts Society - IKCAS, Elvia Puccinelli, has announced the launch of "On Collaborating." The journal is a multi-media platform connecting performance and research in collaborative piano.

Alumna Receives Award and Grant

Collaborative Piano Alumna Lauren Koszyk (MM'20) awarded the Music Teachers National Association MarySue Harris Fellowship. The grant, funded by the MarySue Harris Endowment Fund, is presented annually to a recently graduated independent teacher who demonstrates commitment to the music teaching profession and outstanding studio development.

Alumna Joins Faculty

Collaborative piano alumna Lauren Koszyk (MM'20) joins the faculty of Opera Seme in Arezzo, Italy this summer. She is serving as opera coach, collaborative pianist and Music Director for Opera Seme's production of Umberto Giordano's opera “Mese mariano.”

Dzmitry Ulasiuk (DMA ‘21) will be performing with the El Paso Symphony Orchestra at the Plaza Theater in El Paso, the Plano Symphony Orchestra at the Eisemann Center in Richardson and with the Irving Symphony Orchestra at the Irving Arts Center.
