Students interested in participating in the preliminary round of the UNT College of Music's William Gammon Henry Concerto Competition from the Keyboard Studies Division must sign up for the October 10, 2024 Piano Departmental no later than NOON on Friday, October 4, 2024. The deadline will be strictly enforced.
Contestants should prepare one movement only. No one's teacher is allowed to accompany them. Two pianists will be selected to advance to the College Finals.
Finals will take place on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 beginning at 7:00 pm onstage at the Winspear Hall in the Murchison Performing Arts building. Dr. Clay Couturiaux will determine the schedule. No special scheduling requests will be permitted. Each finalist will have 10 minutes starting from the moment they enter the stage. Approximately 6-7 winners will be selected by a panel of outside judges, for performance with the UNT Concert Orchestra on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at 7:30 pm.
Judges in the final round may include a conductor of a professional orchestra; a director of a chamber or recital series; and a member of a major symphony orchestra. The conductor will possibly choose one finalist to appear with their orchestra in their 2025-2026 season, and prize money of $2000 will be awarded to the performer at the time of that performance. The chamber or recital series director will possibly choose another finalist to perform on their 2025-2026 season, and the prize money of $1000 will be awarded at the time of that performance.
