Miguel Garcia

Miguel Garcia is Assistant Professor of String Music Education at the University of North Texas. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses encompassing string pedagogy, developmental learning, and ensemble instruction and directs the UNT String Project. Prior to his appointment at UNT, Dr. Garcia held teaching positions in Chicago and Evanston, Illinois, where he designed and directed an urban school music program and taught undergraduate and graduate courses in string methods, instrumental music, and music, psychology and healing. He holds degrees from Boston College (B.A.), Roosevelt University (M.M.), and Northwestern University (Ph.D.)

An active clinician and researcher, Dr. Garcia has presented at state, national and international conferences and festivals. His scholarship can be found in a number of book chapters and publications, including Teaching Music Performance: A Guide for Evidence-Based Pedagogy. Dr. Garcia’s research interests include music education and AI, string pedagogy, musical identity, and developmental psychology. As a professional violinist and violist, Dr. Garcia has performed as a soloist, concertmaster, and section musician for more than 20 years with ensembles such as the Illinois Symphony, Peoria Symphony, Chicago Summer Opera, and the Apollo Orchestra.
