Laehyung Woo

Laehyung Woo was born in Seoul, South Korea and made her debut at the Kumho Arts Gallery as the grand finalist for the Kumho Asiana Airlines Prodigy Audition at the age of 14. She graduated cum laude from Seoul National University. In 2008, she was awarded a merit-based scholarship for her master’s degree at New England Conservatory under professor Alexander Korsantia. She studied for her artist diploma at Texas Christian University under Tamás Ungár. While studying for her DMA at the University of North Texas under Pamela Mia Paul, she was awarded a Graduate Assistantship Tuition Scholarship Award and was also a teaching fellow.

Dr. Woo’s passion for music has allowed her to perform in various countries including Europe, Asia, United States, and Canada. She won the IBLA Grand Prize at the Bartok-Kabalevsky-Prokofiev International Piano Competition. She has also performed at various competitions such as Washington International Piano Festival Competition, The Schlern Music International Competition, San Antonio Young Artist Competition, and Jacob Flier Piano Competition at New Paltz. Many other notable venues that she performed at are Carnegie Weill Hall, Kennedy Center, New York University, Nadia & Max Shepard Recital Hall in New York, Williams Hall in Boston, Pepsico Recital Hall in Fort Worth, Tarrant County College, Elon College in North Carolina, Little Rock, Star City, Harrison City in Arkansas, Shinjuk City Arts Hall in Taiwan and Seoul Arts Center. She was invited to perform at Kumho Arts Hall as a winner of the Young Artist Audition and also gave performances at Banff Piano Masterclass, Piano Texas and Mozarteum in Salzburg.

While traveling for performances throughout her career, Dr. Woo, has had the opportunity to meet many world-class artists and has amassed many connections in different parts of the world. Such as professors from New England Conservatory, University of North Texas, Texas Christian University, and The Catholic University of America in Washington D.C. She has visited universities such as Seoul National University, Korea National University of Arts, and Hanyang University in Korea. Dr. Woo had the opportunity to participate in masterclasses offered by these professors. While participating in these masterclasses, she was able to connect many talented artists in Korea with the opportunity to further their careers in the United States.
