After graduation, Eric attended the Manhattan School of Music on a full music scholarship. After music school Eric went on to study Theology at Houston Baptist University (College of Biblical Studies) to become an ordained Minister. Eric has recorded over 75 recordings with various artists. Among these recordings, Let's get lost & Wandering Moon (Terence Blanchard on Sony Classical), Back East (Joshua Redman on Nonesuch) and Land Of Giants (McCoy Tyner on Telarc) were nominated for Grammy Awards. Other recordings include artist Charles Lloyd, Kenny Garrett, Ravi Coltrane, and Greg Osby to name a few. With Terence Blanchard, Eric has performed on 18 motion picture movie scores such as Bo Jangles (with Gregory Hines), Caveman's Valentine (with Samuel Jackson), Original Sin (with Antonio Banderas and Angelina Jolie), People I Know (with Al Pacino and Kim Basinger) and Dark Blue (with Kirk Russell). Performing live is one of Eric's greatest joys and he has had numerous opportunities to play with the greats in the jazz/music industry. Some of these artists include the late, great Betty Carter, Joe Henderson, Charles Lloyd, Joshua Redman, Wynton Marsalis, Branford Marsalis, Dave Holland, Terence Blanchard, McCoy Tyner, Michael Brecker, John Patitucci and Zakir Hussain. Eric is also part of the SF Jazz Collective, a new 8 piece cutting edge group. Eric endorses Yamaha Drums, Zildjian Cymbals, Evans Drumheads, and Vater Sticks. Joe is the Drummer for the United States Naval Academy Band's Jazz Ensemble, The Next Wave, and Principal Percussionist of the USNA Band's Wind Ensemble. Joe is also a member of The Global Percussion Trio, a dynamic group featured at the 2006 PASIC Convention, and co-leader of the Norman/McCarthy Big Band with their 2007 release of "Words Cannot Express," on OA2 Records. Active in education, Joe is an Adjunct Professor of Drumset and Afro-Cuban Percussion Studies at Georgetown University in Washington DC, and in demand as a clinician throughout the US and abroad. Joe has written for Jazz Improv Magazine, Latin Percussion's "All About Rhythm" and has contributed to the educational websites of Zildjian and Innovative Percussion, as well as many others. Joe's Afro-Cuban Big Band Play-Along Book/CD is published by Alfred Music. Joe proudly endorses Zildjian Cymbals, Yamaha Drums, Innovative Percussion, Lp Percussion and Remo Drumheads. Maraca2 has performed at the many of the country's finest concert halls and recital venues including Symphony Hall, National Indoor Arena, Fairfield hall, Warwick Arts Centre, the Barber Institute, Artsfest, the International Convention Centre, Leeds University and the Birmingham Conservatoire at the Annual Convention of European Conservatoires. They are also winners of the 2005 Birmingham Music Classical Awards for contribution to music in the region. Maraca2 is committed to performing new works. Last February they performed the English premier of the 'Goldrush' double percussion concerto with the Birmingham Conservatoire Symphony Orchestra conducted by Lionel Friend. Jacob ter Veldhuis, the composer, attended the performance which was described it as "one of the best ever!". The duo is heavily involved in music education and frequently performs in schools, colleges and other institutes of learning in addition to working regularly with the Southern Sinfonia Orchestra as part of their excellent education projects. They recently visited the Royal Northern College of Music to perform and work with composer Stephen Whibley's on his new piece "Blue Motion". Her recent performances include Marimba Concerto with Orchestra Nipponika conducted by Tetsuji Honna in Kioi Hall, Tokyo, Japan, masterclass and recital at The Power of Drum Festival 2007 in NY, Kirishima International Music Hall in Kagoshima, Japan, the 9eme festival des Journees de la Percussion 2006 (9th the International Percussion Festival 2006) in Paris, Lisinski Concert Hall in Zagreb, Croatia, the VI Festival Internacional de Marimbistas 2006 (6th The International Marimba Festival 2006) in Mexico, The Zeltsman Marimba Festival 2006 in Boston, KOSA International Music Festival in Vermont, Humboldt State University in California, University of Michigan, University of Illinois, Youth Performing Arts School, Japan International League of Artists Marimba Festival in Tokyo, PASIC in Nashville. Born in Kagoshima, Japan, Ms. Daimo began her musical studies at age six on the piano. She started studying the marimba when she entered high school in 1997, and went on to study at the Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts and Music and the Boston Conservatory. Since moving to New York in 1995, he has performed and recorded extensively with Oregon, Paquito D'Rivera, Michel Camilo, the Caribbean Jazz Project, Dave Samuels, Andy Narell, Lyle Mays, David Leibman, Cesar Camargo Mariano and many more. He has appeared on major television shows such as "Late Night with David Letterman", "The Rosie O'Donnell Show", "PBS presents..." and "BET On Jazz". He also appears on screen with Paquito D'Rivera in Fernando Trueba's Latin jazz documentary Calle 54 (Miramax). He has also performed at all the major jazz festivals worldwide. In 2001, he was appointed Associate Professor at Berklee College of Music in Boston. He has also served on the faculty at Drummers Collective in New York City and has conducted master classes, clinics, and workshops in South America, North America, and Europe, both as a solo artist and with such groups as Oregon, Paquito D'Rivera Quintet, the Caribbean Jazz Project, Sakesho, Lyle Mays Quartet, Chucho Valdes, Bill Watrous, and others. He wrote for the all-star instructional drum set book "Killer Grooves"published by Carl Fischer. His solo projects include the sample/loop discs "Chameleon Drums, Vol 1 & 2" (Sonic Emulations) and "Ritmo De Las Americas" (Sampleheads). He has co-produced and co-composed with Oregon, Bob McGrath and David Onderdonk and has arranged for Oregon, Paquito D'Rivera, Caribbean Jazz Project among others. He has won 3 Grammy Awards and earned several Grammy nominations for his work with various artists, including Oregon, Donato Poveda, Paquito D'Rivera and Caribbean Jazz Project. He won the grand prize for Jazziz magazine's "Percussion On Fire" competition in 1996. He has also earned the Indy award and the Jazz award (German record manufacturers) for his work with Oregon. Recent appearances include the Monterrey (Mexico) International Percussion Festival, CrossDrumming Festival in Warsaw, Poland, International Drum and Percussion Festival in Ukmerge, Lithuania, Vilnius Conservatory of Music, Lithuania, Stockholm and Pitea, Sweden, Bands of America Summer Symposium, University of Kentucky, Virginia Commonwealth University, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Florida State University, Belmont University and the University of Central Florida. Past appearances include the Ameropa Chamber Music Festival in Prague, Czech Republic, Berklee School of Music 'Week of Percussion', Belmont University, Eastman School of Music, Zildjian "Factory Concert" in Norwall, Massachusetts, Leigh Howard Stevens Summer Marimba Seminar and the Northwestern Summer Symposium. Highlights of their 2008-2009 concert schedule include appearances at the 5th International Percussion Festival in Monterrey, Mexico, the Maryland Day of Percussion, and a tour of the Baltimore and Washington, D.C. areas. In May of 2009 they will premiere Crystal Cabinet by Bill Cahn, a commissioned work written for Pendulum. The duo has future commissioning projects in progress by other members of the percussion group Nexus, and by Swedish vibraphone virtuoso Anders Astrand. Arthur started playing classical piano at age 6, jazz at 11 through the age of 14. His jazz piano teacher was the legendary John Mehegan, which is where he developed his interest in percussion keyboard instruments. Starting with a xylophone and moving to a vibraphone at 13 he began studies with David Friedman and later with Dave Samuels. He began leading his own group in Connecticut at the age of 15. Arthur attended the University of Delaware as a Plant Science undergrad, and despite this major he always focused on playing and composing. After graduation and soon into his graduate studies, Arthur decided that his true passion was music. He attended the University of North Texas part-time for three semesters before relocating permanently to New York in 1984. Over fifty of Arthur's compositions have been released on recordings. His music has been used on radio, film and TV soundtracks in such places as Finland, Japan, Belgium, The Netherlands, and England. His compositions have been recorded twenty times by various groups. Arthur's appearances as a NYC session player has led to tracks for everything from Bluegrass to Brazilian to Christmas albums, the TV shows Sesame Street, Designing Women, Bill Cosby's It's A Different World, Japanese TV, a French film score, and dozens of radio and TV commercials. Arthur has presented over 300 workshops throughout the world, with invitations to teach at some of the most prestigious universities in the USA and Europe. He has performed at three PASIC conventions. In May 2007 he completed his 8th tour in Brazil, performing in Salvador (Bahia), Rio de Janeiro, and with orchestra in Sao Paolo. Brazilian music has become an integral part of Arthur's activities in recent years. He has recorded in NYC and Rio de Janeiro with numerous artists including guitarist Nelson Faria (currently with Joao Bosco) and woodwind artist Ze Luis. His current working band is called "Arthur Lipner and Brazilian Vibes". Mr. Lipner is sponsored by the Conn/Selmer Company and Mike Balter Mallets as an artist/clinician. Alumni & Student News Rich Malloy (BM Performance, 2000) - Rich lives in Nashville with his wife and two dogs. Rich has performed with Lorrie Morgan, Kim Richey, Freedy Johnston, Will Kimbrough, Garrison Starr, Rod Picott and many others. Currently Rich holds the drum chair for the legendary Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame, Country Music Hall of Fame and Grammy Lifetime Achievement Recipient, Brenda Lee. Ryan Hurn (BM Jazz Studies, 2006) - Ryan lives in Branson, MO and has performed with Andy Williams Band (shows and tours), Les Brown Band of Renown (recorded 2 albums), Bob Hope alumnus Jan Daley and the Lettermen and the Missouri Jazz Orchestra directed by Randy Hamm. Ryan has presented educational clinics at area schools and also has a showboat gig on the lake. Ryan will go to London with Andy Williams this Fall and to California and Las Vegas as well.
