U-Tubes And Trombone Consortium Win

Taught by Nick Finzer and directed by Jack Courtright, the UNT Jazz Studies student ensemble, U-Tubes, won the Kai Winding Jazz Trombone Ensemble Competition while the University of North Texas Trombone Consortium, conducted by Natalie Mannix and Steve Menard, announced as the winners of the Emory Remington Trombone Choir Competition - both led by the International Trombone Association http://trombone.net/general-information/

Daphne Gerling, Assistant Professor of Viola, was recently featured in Volume 36, Number 2 of the Journal of the American Viola Society where her article, "Interwoven Paths and Influences: Ernest Bloch, Rebecca Clarke, Paul Hindemith and their Viola Works of 1919,” appears.

Flute! Fundamentals | July 6 – July 8, 2024

Flute! Fundamentals is a workshop for performers and educators interested in developing teaching and performing skills.  Participants observe master teaching and interact with artist Mary Karen Clardy coaching students of all levels in daily sessions.  Basics of embouchure, breathing, tone production, phrasing, articulation, vibrato, and technical skills are addressed, with practical exercises/solutions for common flute problems given throughout the class.
