  • Apply for admission to the College of Music through the online application for admission, audition, scholarship, fellowship and assistantships
  • Submit the following materials through the music application:
    • A professional resume
    • Repertoire List
    • Personal statement which must describe your professional background, and purpose for pursuing the degree, and outline your professional goals.
  • Perform an on-campus audition, and, while on campus for the audition, have an interview with members of the jazz faculty. See jazz.unt.edu for audition requirements. Students may choose to emphasize performance or composition/arranging in the applied study and dissertation portions of the degree. Students who wish to emphasize composition/arranging must submit a variety of scores and recordings, as outlined on the jazz studies website.
  • Effective for the Fall 2024 admission cycle, we no longer require submission of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or UNT Graduate Writing Exam. Admission decisions will be made holistically based on submission of both the UNT and College of Music applications and supplemental materials, interview/audition, etc.
  • Attend all orientation sessions scheduled by the director of graduate studies in music.
  • Take the Graduate Placement Examinations (GPE) given by the College of Music during new student orientation - held the week before classes begin.
