Lucas Borges

Lucas Borges is a DMA student at University of North Texas where he acts as a Teaching Fellow. He is under the tutelage of Vern Kagarice, Jan Kagarice and Tony Baker.  Lucas has earned his Master’s degree from Indiana University and his Bachelor’s degree from Universidade de Brasilia (Brazil).

In Brazil, his home country, Lucas was a member of Brasilia Philharmonic Orchestra and performed frequently as a guest musician with the Claudio Santoro National Theater Symphony Orchestra.  He is a founding member of the Trombones SA quartet and Fine-brass brass quintet.  In Brasília, he taught trombone and chamber music at the Escola de Musica de Brasília (School of Music of Brasília). There he was an active freelance musician performing in a wide variety of musical groups and genres. 

In the USA, Lucas Borges was a member of the Indiana University Conductor’s Orchestra, the Concert Orchestra and the Festival Orchestra, among other orchestras at Indiana University.

He was also a member of the IU New Music Ensemble and Wind Ensemble.  He has performed regularly with The Bloomington Camerata Orchestra and other regional orchestras such as the Columbus and Bloomington symphony orchestras.

Lucas has performed under renowned conductors such as Kurt Masur, Luis Biava and Roberto Minczuk.  He was a fellowship recipient at the Campos do Jordão Winter Music Festival (Brazil), and participated in many other music festivals.  He has been fortunate to have lessons with many world-class trombonists such as Joseph Alessi, Jay Friedman, Charles Vernon and Jacques Mauger.  His main teachers were Paulo Roberto da Silva, Dr. Carlos Eduardo Mello and Peter Ellefson, with additional studies with Wagner Polistchuk, Carl Lenthe and M. Dee  Stewart.
