Yoshiko Shamoto
Yoshiko Shamoto, born in Nagoya, Japan, moved to the U.S. in 2000. She is a Doctor of Musical Arts piano performance major at the University of North Texas. During her bachelor's degree, she performed with University of Central Oklahoma orchestra, gave a public recital in Ada, Oklahoma, and received an honor by the Oklahoma Music Teachers Association in 2002. She is also a winner of an International piano concerto competition in Prague, Czech Republic, and performed in Hradec Kralove with the Hradec Kralove Philharmonic in 2003. After completing her bachelor's degree in piano performance with a business minor at East Central University in Oklahoma, she moved to Texas to obtain a master's degree in piano performance with a related field in accompanying from the University of North Texas. She served as a teaching fellow in the keyboard division and taught group keyboard classes during her master's. She participated and performed in master classes held by the Chinese-American International Piano Institute at the Sicuan Conservatory in 2007. She is currently studying piano performance under Mr. Joseph Banowetz and Music and Medicine as a related field under Dr. Kris Chesky. Since commencing her undergraduate in piano performance, she has nurtured a strong interest in the area of the biomechanics of the upper extremity and playing-related injuries among pianists. She is currently assisting as a teaching fellow for Dr. Chesky's course, Introduction to Occupational Health, MUAG 1500. She plans to investigate in health issues concerning the care and knowledge of pianists' posture and movements. |
