Bradetich 26th Annual Double Bass Master Classes
June 10-14, 2013
University of North Texas
Bradetich biography, recordings and articles
The Bradetich Master Classes (26th Annual) is one of the longest running events of its kind in the U.S. These classes offer a highly concentrated week of study for aspiring bassists. Participants, who come from four continents as well as all corners of the U.S., receive optimum individual and group instruction in all aspects of double bass playing. The classes include daily two-hour sessions dealing with technique, orchestral repertoire, and the interpretation of solo literature. In addition, bass ensembles are rehearsed throughout the week. All full participants
will have the opportunity to perform with piano accompaniment and will be videotaped during the solo classes. The master classes end with a grand finale concert featuring ensemble performances by the participants and solo performances by Jeff Bradetich and Lynn Seaton. These unique master classes are open to well-qualified high school and college students and young professionals. Also welcome are string teachers and older individuals who seek to rejuvenate their love and knowledge of the double bass.
Two levels of participation are available:
Full Participant: Full Participant: (Limit 25) Participate in all sessions and perform in the solo classes. The participants are expected to be able to play three-octave scales; have good knowledge of thumb position; and be able to play solo works at the difficulty level of the Eccles Sonata or the Dragonetti Concerto.
Auditor: No instrument. Will attend all sessions and take part in discussions
Special Guest Artist for the 2013 North Texas Bass Camps is Andreas Bennetzen. Also know as Andy Benz, he is a Danish bassist & composer from Copenhagen, Denmark.
While he was studying classical double bass in Copenhagen, New York and Odense, Andreas Bennetzen got into the avantgarde and electronic music scene. He was already working as a classical double bass player in symphony orchestras and as a soloist, but he felt a need to find his own true voice with the instrument. Then, in 2005, 2 years after his Konzerteksamen, he got his hands on his first electric-upright bass. A Cetus Bass (the White One)
The bass arrived only one day before he had to perform in front of an audience of 2 million viewers on a televised show live in Tivoli, Copenhagen. This first 'test' was so successful that he decided right away to start exploring the possibilities offered by electric string instruments and effects. Equipped with a loop machine & multiple effects he started creating and performing his own `Cross-Over` music. He started working with other artists and artforms and slowly developed his own sound. Then in june 2009, he released his solo debut album ́Flowing in Circles ́ under the alias 'Andy Benz'. The mix of classical music and modern technology has taken him to many places around the world and led to many interesting partnerships. He must be the first loop musician ever to have performed privately for the Queen of Denmark, at the castle Fredensborg. Over the years he has worked with: Efterklang, Halfmachine, Pharfar, L.O.C, Art-Attac, Clemens, Katrine Ring, Steen Koerner, Stine Kinck, Keld Heick, Poeten & Lillebror, Schwelle 7, among many others He is co-founder of the art-groups Live Art Installations & Halfmachine.
