Tickets on-sale for Spring 2012 performances
Highlights of the more than 70 events include Handel’s Theodora, conducted by Graeme Jenkins and featuring Ava Pine and Ryland Angel (Feb. 23-24); John Clayton with the One O’Clock Lab Band (Mar. 8); UNT Opera’s production of Lucia di Lammermoor (Mar. 2-11); the Wind Symphony’s world premiere of Steven Bryant’s Concerto for Piano, Orchestral Winds and Percussion (April 12); and the UNT Symphony Orchestra and Grand Chorus performing Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, Stravinsky’s Symphony of Psalms and Britten’s Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings, featuring Richard Croft (April 25).
UNT wins 1st place in National Opera Association competition
The University of North Texas Opera program earned first place in the National Opera Association’s Opera Production Competition in Division V – the highest division among conservatory and university programs – for its production of Marc Blitzstein’s Regina.
Dr. Ruth Smith presents lecture on Handel and Politics
Modern artists often feel they have to try to be ‘relevant’. In 18th-century England, relevance of art to politics and ideology was expected and looked for. This talk explores ways in which Handel, a master assimilator, engaged with the traditions, ideas and events of his adopted country and his time, while aiming to win audiences for his art.
Theodora Tickets On Sale Now
UNT College of Music presents Handel’s Theodora in both Denton and Dallas. Join featured soloists Ava Pine and Ryland Angel, alongside University of North Texas faculty members Richard Croft, Jeffrey Snider and Jennifer Lane.
UNT Receives Major Gift
On August 15, 2011 the University of North Texas announced the largest gift in the history of the university with the pledge of $22 million from entrepreneur and alumnus Charn Uswachoke.
