The University of North Texas College of Music is proud to host a three-day conference for the official inauguration of its new Richard Ardoin - Paul Voertman Concert Organ built for Winspear Hall in the Murchison Performing Arts Center by the celebrated builder Hellmuth Wolff.
This instrument is Wolff's second largest, encompassing 60 stops on three manuals and pedals and was conceived for the needs of large ensemble forces, specifically the orchestral and choral repertories, and the organ will be heard in this collaborative role in each of the three evening concerts presented during the conference. The organ also encompasses significant stylistic features from the central German area, bestowing on it precious resources for the performance of J. S. Bach's organ works. The stoplist was rounded off with suitable resources and winding for later nineteenth- and twentieth-century works. The conference will focus on a specific repertory and its performance practices during each of the three days: Bach, Nineteenth-Century Music, and Twentieth-Century Music. In addition to the featured artists presenting masterclasses and concerts, distinguished lecturers and respondents from across North America combine forces to deliver cutting-edge sessions relevant to the specific period explored.
Thanks to generous financial support, current students and recently graduated professionals (within five years of matriculation) are eligible for scholarship assistance, reducing their conference tuition to $25 for the three-day period.
