Percussion

Combining a unique balance of traditional classical percussion combined with an extensive world music curricula, students learn by performing the music of Brazil, Cuba, Trinidad, India, Indonesia and West Africa.

Brass

The distinguished faculty includes internationally known teachers with extensive professional performance careers in addition to their outstanding teaching skills.

Wind Studies

Conducting associates receive practical experience working regularly with the wind ensembles, appearing regularly on concert programs throughout the year. Additionally, conducting associates are integrally involved in the Wind Studies summer Conductor’s Collegium, a multifaceted workshop which provide opportunities for instrumental music educators of all levels from around the world to meet and discuss common goals, shared concerns, and practical solutions with colleagues, performers and composers.

Early Music

These ensembles are open to all members of the student body by audition and participation is required for the MA and PhD in Musicology with an Emphasis in Early Music Performance as well as for Early Music Related Fields for the MM, DMA and PhD degrees. The Baroque Orchestra can also be used as the chamber music requirement for Master’s students and ensembles can fulfill the requirement for several Artist Certificate programs.

Choral Studies

Our alumni hold prestigious singing or conducting positions with the Metropolitan Opera, New York City Opera, Chicago Lyric Opera, Houston Grand Opera, numerous regional opera companies, nationally prominent professional choirs (including Conspirare, the Santa Fe Desert Chorale, Seraphic Fire, A Room full of Teeth, the Singing Sergeants, the President’s Own Marine Band, the Navy Sea Chanters, the U.S. Army Chorus), and university faculties across the nation.

Divisions and Areas of Study

The College of Music is divided into eight divisions in order to accomplish the academic instruction and performance training in an efficient and comprehensive manner. The divisions in turn are divided into several areas, each focused on the needs of a particular instrument or academic discipline so that every student is assured of the highest level of depth and quality of instruction in their particular major.

How does an international student apply?

Study Abroad and Exchange

International Exchanges offer an academically challenging opportunity that enable UNT students to attend universities abroad for an academic year or semester and earn credit in most major fields. Participating students make normal academic progress for about the same cost as studying at UNT. Our students pay tuition and fees at UNT and room/board and other normal expenses at the host institution in the host country.UNT students enroll in courses as regular students and are responsible for all course work and examinations.
