Locrian to Perform Klein

The work by Joseph Klein, Distinguished Teaching Professor of Composition and Chair of the Division of Composition, Chain of Circumstances, for solo piano and optional dancer, has been selected for performance during the 2021-22 season by The Locrian Chamber Players from its annual call for scores. The video version of the work premiered November 2020 at University of North Texas for CEMI's Sonic Murals Festival.

Megan Stapleton (DMA ‘20) has been appointed as Assistant Professor of Voice Studies at BJU - Division of Music at Bob Jones University and will be teaching applied voice, vocal literature, vocal pedagogy and opera workshop.

Breaking: Two O'clock to the Midwest Clinic

North Texas Jazz | UNT Division of Jazz Studies Two O’Clock Lab Band was chosen to perform at the 2021 @midwestclinic international band and orchestra conference in Chicago, Illinois. The band is directed by Rob Parton, Associate Professor of Jazz Trumpet and Chair of the Division of Jazz Studies.

Faculty Returns from Studio

Rob Parton, Associate Professor of Jazz Trumpet and Chair of the Division of Jazz Studies, returned from a recording session in Chicago with David Bloom, composer/producer and Cliff Colnot, arranger/producer, where he was featured soloist on four tracks. The scheduled release is 2022.

Graduate Drumset Student

Joshua Calef, MM student in drumset has been named to the Jazz Aspen Snowmass (JAS) 2021 Academy. The Summer big band program is under the leadership of Christian McBride, Shelly Berg and Chuck Bergeron with the goal “to identify and assist the most talented artists embracing jazz.” As such, inclusion to the Academy is a full-cost of attendance financial award.

Jeff Bradetich, Regents Professor of Double Bass, was awarded by the International Society of Bassists with their 2021 Special Recognition Award in the category of Teaching. The honor is bestowed “to those who have contributed their special skills, knowledge, projects and other positive works in furthering the ISB's mission to inspire, educate and connect.”

Suzuki for Brass

A FIRST: Faculty and alumnus join Alfred Music in releasing Suzuki Trumpet School, Volume 1 - the very first Suzuki Method book for the brass instrument family. See Caleb Hudson, Assistant Professor of Trumpet and member of Canadian Brass along with Michael Schneider, (BM ’99), a classical pianist, collaborator, educating artist and composer.
