students through learning opportunities that are contextual and relevant to a
career in teaching. To become an effective music educator, each student
must commit to excellence in both teaching and musicianship.

Area of Expertise:
History and Instrumental Music

Dr. Ramsey currently teaches undergraduate and graduate courses and is coordinator of the music education master's program. In conjunction with the leadership of the Owsley Youth Center, Dr. Ramsey launched The Start Up the Band program in which fourth and fifth grade youth living in an economically disadvantaged area will have the opportunity to learn to play band instruments under the guidance of UNT music education students. He also began a choral component called Music Explorers that meets on Friday afternoons as a part of the After School Program. He also coordinates a New Horizon's Band in Addison.

Dr. Ramsey was recipient of the 2001 Carson-Newman Outstanding Alumni Award. Ramsey is currently National President of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
