Ed Smith Bio
Ed Smith is a renown percussionist affiliated with the UNT College of Music. A native of Dallas, Smith left to study vibraphone privately in Boston and New York City before returning to Dallas to perform and record with many jazz groups, including performances with John Cage, Phil Woods and Johnny Mathis. He has studied Balinese music while visiting the island on numerous occasions, and recently performed at a Balinese temple celebration. He is an accompanist for the Meadows School for the Arts at Southern Methodist University, and teaches vibraphone at the University of North Texas and Cedar Valley College. Mr. Smith directs the Balinese Gamelan Ensemble at UNT.
