Professor Leonard Candelaria is recognized internationally as a
teacher and performer of
distinction of both modern and historical instruments. He has presented
solo concerts and
masterclasses in dozens of American cities and universities, as well as in
Norway, Russia,
Mexico, Taiwan, Sweden, Germany, Ukrainia, and France. He has also
participated in Ensemble,
Dallas Bach Society and Summit Brass. He holds degrees from the
University of North Texas
(B.M., M.M.E.) and Northwestern University (D. Mus.). His teachers
include Robert H.
Fleming, John Haynie, Vincent Cichowicz, Luther Didrickson and Edward
Tarr.
Many of Professor Candelaria’s former students occupy positions in
symphony orchestras
and professional bands throughout the world, and more than 30 teach in
American colleges and
universities. Others have been prizewinners in prestigious national and
international competitions.
In 1993 he was awarded the Shelton Excellence in Teaching Award by the
Faculty Senate of the
University of North Texas. He was elected to serve as 1993-95 Altenburg
Competition in Bad
Sackingen, Germany, the 1996 Vassily Brandt International Trumpet Festival
Competition in
Saratov, Russia and in October, 1998 the International trumpet Competition
in Kiev. He has
performed as a featured artist at the 1993, 1995, 1996 and 1998 EURO-ITG
Conferences, 1995
International Brassfest, and the 1997 ITG Conference.
