Raquel Rodriquez will join the faculty of the UNT College of Music as an Assistant Professor of Trumpet in August 2018. Raquel maintains a versatile career as a performing artist, clinician, educator, and scholar. Raquel is on the faculty of Tennessee Tech, serves as principal trumpet of the Bryan Symphony Orchestra, and performs with the Brass Arts Quintet, both faculty ensembles-in-residence at Tennessee Tech. Raquel is principal cornet with the Southern Stars Symphonic Brass Band and a member of Seraph Brass, a brass quintet comprised of top female brass players in North America.
A versatile musician, Raquel has performed and/or recorded with a variety of artists and ensembles including: Tony Bennett, Idina Menzel, Adele, Sunflower Music Festival Orchestra, Aspen Festival Orchestra, Kansas City Symphony, Topeka Symphony Orchestra, Fountain City Brass Band, Lexington Brass Band, Fillmore Wind Band, Frank Simon Band, Athena Brass Band, Synergy Brass Quintet, Brass Theater with the Canadian Brass, and the Tony Award winning show, Blast! In 2013, Raquel recorded “Cincinnati Virtuosity – The Cornet Solos of Frank Simon and Herman Bellstedt” which is available on Amazon and iTunes. Dr. Rodriquez is a clinician for the Conn-Selmer and Denis Wick Companies.
An active clinician, Raquel has presented sessions at the College Music Society - Southern Regional Conference, Midwest Clinic, Historic Brass Society Symposium, TMEA (TX), OMEA (OH), KMEA (KY), GMEA (2018), and the International Trumpet Guild Conference. Raquel has recently performed and/or presented master classes at Berry College (GA), Virginia Tech University, Georgia State University, University of Arizona, TAMU-Corpus Christi, TAMU-Kingsville, Wright State University, Michigan State University, Luther College, University of Kentucky, University of Florida, University of Louisville, and the University of North Carolina-Pembroke. Raquel’s scholarly activities have resulted in articles published in the Instrumentalist Magazine and ITG Journal.
Raquel has served as an adjudicator at the National Trumpet Competition and International Trumpet Guild (ITG) Conference. Active in the ITG organization, Raquel is the Editor of the Trumpet Technology Column in the ITG Journal and serves on the Board of Directors. Raquel co-hosted the 2018 Trumpet Festival of the Southeast and the 2014 International Women’s Brass Conference.
Raquel holds the DMA in Trumpet Performance from The University of North Texas, where she studied with renowned trumpet pedagogue Keith Johnson. She earned the MA and Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from West Texas A&M University where she studied with Mr. David Ritter.
