Daniel Pearl

The College of Music is dedicating ALL of its October concerts as part of the Daniel Pearl World Music Days, affirming the ideals of tolerance, friendship and our shared humanity. This annual international event is inspired by the life and work of Wall Street Journal journalist and classical violinist Daniel Pearl who was kidnapped and murdered in Pakistan in 2002 and who would have celebrated his 45th birthday on October 10, 2008. For more information consult www.danielpearlmusicdays.org

To underscore the importance of Daniel Pearl Music Days, there will be three free screenings on campus of the 2007 film, A Mighty Heart, starring Angelina Jolie (see below for details). In addition, there will be a free screening of the documentary "The Journalist and the Jihadi: The murder of Daniel Pearl" on Tuesday October 14th at 6:00pm in the Lyceum.

Daniel Pearl's father, Dr. Judea Pearl will visit UNT and give a speech at 6:30 pm in the Lyceum on UNT's campus on October 20th. The title of his speech is "Carving a dialogue between Muslims and Jews" which will be followed by a Q & A session.  This event is free and open to the public. There will be a book signing immediately following of the book "I am Jewish: Personal Reflections Inspired by the Last Words of Daniel Pearl".

If you have questions and/or wish to volunteer to help with UNT's efforts, please contact Jennifer Lane at Jennifer.Lane@unt.edu
