  • Corse Mode for Straight Key and Electronics by PhD composer Dan Tramte has been selected for performance at the Sound and Music Computing Conference (SMC) 2012 in Aalborg, Denmark. Dan will perform the work on the Music for Novel Instruments and Interfaces Concert at the conference.

  • Nine UNT-affiliated composers were selected to participate in the SEAMUS 2012 Conference at Lawrence University, 9-11 February 2012: student composers L. Scott Price and Greg Dixon; alumni composers Ethan Hayden, Chapman Welch, Mikel Kuehn, Daniel Zajicek, Eli Fieldsteel, and Elainie Lillios; and former faculty member Butch Rovan.

  • Tartarian Psalm II: Metrical Charm, a composition for bass trombone by doctoral composer Mark Oliveiro, has won first prize in category I of the British Trombone Society’s Composition Competition 2012. The work will be performed in Manchester UK in May 2012 and published by Warwick Music.

  • Doctoral composer Mark Oliveiro's composition for Soprano and Piano, Il Garrot, was awarded an Honorable Mention Citation in the International Music Prize for Excellence in Composition 2011, sponsored by the National Academy of Music.

  • After receiving an American Composers Forum Encore Grant (2011) to compose a new work for the new music ensemble Pictures on Silence, doctoral composer Mark Oliveiro’s composition Tanox has been made the subject of a short promotional video documentary, released early this year by the American University (Washington DC).

  • The following North Texas composers will be participating in Electronic Music Midwest at Kansas City Kansas Community College (30 September - 1 October 2011): students Jonathan Jackson, Greg Dixon, and Dan Tramte; and alumnae Da Jeong Choi and Elainie Lillios.

  • The following UNT composers had their works presented at the 2011 International Computer Music Conference (ICMC) at the University of Huddersfield, England (31 July - 5 August 2011): doctoral student Dan Tramte; alumni Da Jeong Choi, Mikel Kuehn, Elainie Lillios, and Yu-Chung Tseng; and former faculty John Mallia.

  • Mei Votum (My Prayer, 2008) for solo piano by doctoral composer Da Jeong Choi will be performed by Young Lang Kim (Chair and piano faculty at Myongji University) at the International Conference 2011 of the College Music Society in Seoul and Gyeongju, South Korea (3-10 July 2011).

  • Doctoral flutist-composer Lisa Bost-Sandberg was invited to Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin, as a guest composer and flutist 18-19 May 2011. During the two-day residency she performed a recital that included three of her own works, taught flute and composition masterclasses, and presented two lectures.

  • The percussion ensemble arrangement of Lift up My Hands to You (2004) by doctoral composer Da Jeong Choi was performed by Delaware Percussion Ensemble at the University of Delaware, (Newark, DE) on 11 April 2011. Choi's Explorations of a Drum (2003; rev. 2009) for solo snare drum was performed by Greg Neblett at Morehead State University (Morehead, KY) on 17 April 2011; this work has also been included on the suggested performance lists of PAS Italy-International Competition (2-14 September 2011).

  • Fourteen UNT-affiliated composers have been selected to participate in the SEAMUS 2011 Conference at the University of Miami, 20-22 January 2011: student composers Da Jeong Choi, Greg Dixon, Joshua Harris, Brian Hernandez, Mark Oliveiro, L. Scott Price, and Dan Tramte; alumni composers Elainie Lillios, Stephen Lucas, Ilya Rostovtsev, Kohsuke Tajima, Rodney Waschka, and Chapman Welch; and former faculty member Butch Rovan.

  • Doctoral composer Da Jeong Choi's Mons Montis (Great Rock, rev. 2010) for multi-percussion solo and 2-channel electroacoustic music was presented at Electro-acoustic Music on Radio New Zealand Concert (Wellington, New Zealand) on 17 December 2010.

  • Cantus Curatio (Healing Melody, 2008) for fixed media by doctoral composer Da Jeong Choi received several performances in 2010: Pina Bausch Theatre at Folkwang University (Essen, Germany) on 3 December 2010; Longy School of Music (Cambridge, MA) on 3 December 2010; The Art of Record Production Conference at Leeds Metropolitan University (Leeds, England) on Dec 3, 2010; SALT Gallery (New York City) on 13 November 2010; and Instituto Universitario Nacional del Arte (Buenos Aires, Argentina) on 1 October 2010.

  • Doctoral composer Greg Dixon's stereo electroacoustic work, Disconnect, was performed at Sonic Vigil on 17 July 2010 at St. Fin Barre’s Cathedral (Cork, Ireland) and at the Electronic Music Midwest Festival on 14 October 2010 at Lewis College (Romeoville, IL). Another stereo electroacoustic work, You Station, was performed at EMTWO on 16 November 2010 at Ball State University (Muncie, IN).

  • Works by student composers Joshua Harris, Brian Hernandez, Mark Oliveiro, Ilya Y. Rostovtsev, Kohsuke Tajima, and Dan Tramte were showcased at the annual Electric LaTex festival in Tulane University (October 2010). Tramte's composition, Nomos Delta won the audience favorite prize for the first show.

  • The Canadian Electroacoustic Community, in collaboration with the Australasian Computer Music Association (ACMA) has announced the results of the 11th edition of JTTP (Jeu de Temps/Time Play). This year's winners included doctoral composer Mark Oliveiro in the Australasian section (for In Maluga) and 2010 Bourges resident artist Émilie Payeur in the Canadian section (for Triptyque). The 2010 edition of this project was open to young and/or emerging sound artists/composers from (or living in) either Canada, Australia, or New Zealand.

  • Doctoral composer Da Jeong Choi gave a presentation on "My Musical Language and Compositional Techniques" at the 12th Annual Aspen Composers' Conference, Aspen Music Festival 2010 (1 July - 22 August 2010). Cantus Curatio II (Healing Melody II) for solo violin was performed by Cheng-Yin Lin at the Aspen Composers’ Conference concert on 26 July 2010.

  • Several works by doctoral composer Da Jeong Choi were performed and premiered on a European Concert Tour in 2010. The program included Prelude (2002), Chasing Invisible Light (2009), Pontis (2007), improvvisazione con le mani (2010 world premiere), Mei Votum (2008), and Dear My Friend (2002), performed at Spazio Paraggi Gallery in Treviso, Italy (2 July 2010), at Berlin Jeil Church in Berlin, Germany (4 July 2010), at Eglise Presbyterienne Coreenne du Pont-Neuf in Paris, France (11 July 2010). Works were performed by guitarist Roberto Benetton, cellist Hun Sun Chae, bassoonist Sung Chan Hong, pianist Young Mi Seo, pianist Agnese Toniutti, and choreographer/pianist/vocalist Da Jeong Choi.

Choi's Cantus Curatio (Healing Melody, 2008) for Fixed Media was performed at SUNY Stony Brook (Stony Brook, NY) on 3-5 June 2010 and at Nazarian Center for the Performing Arts (Providence, RI) on 18 June 2010.
