Mission Statement:
The University of North Texas student chapter of the American Choral Director's Association is committed to enhancing the education of future choral music educators through a variety of programs and projects. Participation fosters a connection between the UNT student chapter and the national organization, ACDA.

Founded:
Founded in 1959, the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) strives to elevate choral music's position in American society. ACDA is a nonprofit music education organization whose central purpose is to promote excellence in choral music through performance, composition, publication, research, and teaching.

Membership: ACDA membership consists of approximately 18,000 choral directors who represent more than one million singers across the United States. ACDA members teach choral music in our schools, communities, and places of worship. They conduct a variety of choral groups, including boychoirs, children's choirs, men's and women's choruses, middle school and senior high school choirs, college and university choruses, ethnic choirs, vocal-jazz ensembles, community choirs, and symphony choruses.

Organizational Structure: ACDA is divided into seven geographical divisions and fifty state chapters.  Each chapter has its own conventions, newsletters, festivals, clinics, and workshops.

Student Chapters:
ACDA currently lists 192 chartered student chapters.  In Los Angeles, at the national convention in 2005, the University of North Texas student chapter was identified as one of the top three chapters in the country.  Through service and the professional development of its members, the UNT chapter remains extremely active as stewards of the choral art.

Conventions:
ACDA offers conventions at each level: state, division, and national. National conventions are offered in March of odd-numbered years; the seven division conventions take place in February and March of even-numbered years. Through concert performances by accomplished choirs, educational clinics by leading experts, and exhibits by music-industry representatives, ACDA offers its members a diverse and practical forum in which to develop their skills and professional knowledge.
