UNDERGRADUATE

The University of North Texas has one of the most highly acclaimed music education programs in the United States. By choosing music education as your major, you will be prepared for a career as a professional music teacher. UNT's music education degree program leads to Texas teacher certification in all-level music, opening an array of employment options. With a Bachelor's degree in music education from UNT, you could work as an elementary music specialist or as a middle school/high school band, choir, or orchestra director.

GRADUATE

There are two types of graduate programs in music education at UNT: the Master’s Degree and the Ph.D. Degree. The Master’s degree is designed to focus on teaching skills, school administrative and leadership skills, and current trends in the field of music education. Requisite for all Master’s programs is a Bachelors degree and at least one year of successful school teaching experience. The degree choices are (1) Master of Music Education (36 semester credit hours), and Master of Music with emphasis on research (32 semester credit hours, including 6 credit hours of thesis). The Doctoral degree prepares students for collegiate level teaching, including instruction in the practice of research. The Ph.D. in Music Education is a 60-hour degree with prerequisites of a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree, and 3 years of successful school teaching experience.
